Step 1:

We will start off with just a basic grill. Don't worry if your grill looks nothing like this; just about all gas grills have the same basic anatomy.

Step 2:

First, remove the warming rack (if you have one) and your cooking grates.

Step 3:

Next, remove any ceramic briquettes or lava rocks if you have them, and then remove the rock grate or heat plate. This should leave nothing between you and the burner(s).

Step 4:

Find your ignitor. Some grills have push buttons, some have rotary knobs.

Step 5:

**Note: If you are not replacing your ignitor as well as your burner, you can skip this step.

Unattach the ignitor assembly from the grill. If you have a push button, it may just snap off or there may be a nut you can remove with your hands to unattach it from the control panel of your grill. For rotary ignitors, you will have to pull the knob off and unscrew the screws under it. For battery operated ignitors, it will vary since each brand does it differently.

Step 6:

Locate the electrode wire (it plugs into the back of your ignitor assembly), and unplug it. It should just pull out. If you skipped the last step, then your ignitor assembly will still be attached to the grill. This is no big deal, you can still unplug the electrode wire by reaching underneath tht control panel of your grill.

Step 7:

**Note: If you are not replacing your ignitor as well as your burner, you can skip this step.

To get to the electrode itself, look inside your grill. You should see what is called a collector box onor near one or more of your burners. This is box that houses the electrode itself. When you find it, you will notice it is open on the side facing the burner. Get a nut driver, and unscrew the bolt holding the collector box to the burner or grill housing. If you have to bend the box a little, don't worry. It won't hurt a thing. Once the box is loose, you can pull the electrode wire and collector box out of the grill. You should have all of these parts.

Step 8:

Now that the electrode wire is disconnected, you can pull the burner assembly out of your grill without a problem.

Step 9:

The new burner/venturi kit you bought should have these parts (or at least if you bought only a burner or only venturis, you need all of these parts to reassemble a good burner and reinstall it).

Step 10:

To assemble (or reassemble) your burner assembly, place the gaskets over the venturi holes. Then place the venturis over the gaskets, and screw them securely into place.

Step 11:

This is what the finished product should look like.

Step 12:

Now reinstall the burner assembly in the grill.

Step 13:

Make sure that when you slide the venturis into the grill, that the holes in the venturis slide over the valves like so. This view can be seen if you look up under the control panel of your grill. Now reconnect your ignitor electrode (the wire that plugged into your ignitor).

Step 14:

Fire up your grill before you put everything back into place. If the flame is not blue, then the air mixture may not be right. To fix this, turn the grill off, disconnect the electrode, and remove the burner(s) again. Notice the screws on the end of the venturis. Loosen (but don't remove) the screw, and adjust the shutter to be more open or more closed. Replace the burners, hook up the electrode wire, and fire it up again. If it isn't right, repeat until the flame is blue. Then place your rack grates (or heat plates) and cooking grates back in the grill and you are ready to go!
